Fundraiser for fire emergency July 24, 2021 – Baumela Ecovillage

During the night of the 24th of July, a fire broke out in Sardinia in the Montiferru area, situated in the Oristano region.
The heat and the strong wind contributed to the spread of the flames which, before they could be tamed, reduced 20,000 hectares of land to ashes, including ancient forests, olive groves, farms and houses. The fire did not spare livestock and wildlife.
As of today, it’s not possible to estimate the damage inflicted to the local economy, which brings down entire towns and villages to their knees, nor it’s possible to calculate the grave environmental damage and heritage loss.
Helping Baumela’s community after the fire
“The Seed Network”(La Rete dei Semi) is on the move to offer help to Baumela’s eco-village community, with whom it has been collaborating for years within networks of mutual aid and friendship.

Baumela has been hit very hard by the fire, which started right on the road that leads from Santu Lussurgiu to Bonarcado, where the ecovillage is located.

We are already thinking about future reforestation/reduction of hydrogeological risks projects and in the next few days we will provide you with more information about joining the study and design campaign that we plan to carry out, with the collaboration of as many people as possible.

But, in the meantime the emergency is not yet over, on the contrary: we are beginning to count the enormous damage, so we will need direct finanancial aid to assist the Baumela’s communitiy with paying for urgent necessities like veterinarian’s bills, equipment etc.
We have therefore decided to launch a fundraiser and help the eco-village Baumela in this time of need.”
